Rustam Minnikhanov takes part in the first meeting of Tatarstan State Council of the 6th convocation

On September 20, at the Government House of the republic, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, Tatarstan State Counsellor Mintimer Shaimiev, Prime Minister of the republic Aleksey Pesoshin, Chief of Staff of Tatarstan President’s Administration Asgat Safarov, members of Government of the republic and invited guests took part in the opening of the first meeting of Tatarstan State Council of the 6th convocation.

Before the election of the Chairman of Tatarstan State Council, under the procedure established, the oldest elected people’s deputy of the State Council of the republic Marat Galeev chaired the first meeting.

The election of the Chairman of Tatarstan State Council was one of the main issues on the agenda. There were two candidates, namely, Secretary of Tatarstan regional branch of All-Russian Political Party “United Russia” Farid Mukhametshin and first secretary of Tatarstan regional branch of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Khafiz Mirgalimov. Both candidates made a report before the voting.

Mukhametshin was elected Chairman of Tatarstan State Council by a majority of votes.

Speaking at the meeting, Minnikhanov congratulated Mukhametshin on his appointment. He emphasized that the experience and efficiency of the speaker of the State Council of the republic to interact with voters and people’s deputies, state and municipal authorities and federal structures contributes to establishing the systematic work of legislative support for the implementation of large-scale development programmes of the republic.

Tatarstan President also elected all people’s deputies on the election.

Minnikhanov wished the people’s deputies to be actively involved in the legislative process and introduce fresh ideas.

Marat Akhmetov, Yuriy Kamaltynov and Tatyana Larionova were elected deputies of Chairman of Tatarstan State Council. Liliya Mavrina was elected Secretary of the State Council of the republic.

On September 8, the elections of people’s deputies of Tatarstan State Council of the 6th convocation were held.

According to its results, the members of the parliament of the republic were half updated. The vast majority of mandates belong to the United Russia party. The Communist Party of the Russian Federation doubled its results if compared with the 5th convocation, having received six seats. Representatives of other parties (the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia, Just Russia party, Party of Growth will also work in the new convocation of the regional parliament. All of them were elected in single-mandate constituencies.
