On May 2, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov joined the Garden of Memory international campaign dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the World War II.
As part of the campaign, it is planned to plant 27 million trees in Russia before the 22nd of June to commemorate the fallen in the Great Patriotic War. More than 350 thousand seedlings will be planted in the republic.
Today the campaign was held in the Victory Park. Together with Tatarstan President, Chief Federal Inspector in Tatarstan Viktor Demidov, Minister of Forestry of the republic Ravil Kuziurov, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, as well as members of the Victory Volunteers movement joined the campaign. In total, 75 willows were planted in the park in stages in compliance with all sanitary and epidemiological standards.
“It is a very good campaign. This is a tribute to those who fought for victory, for our homeland, for all of us. Many of them did not return. It is very important to remember their heroic deed,” Minnikhanov said.
During the coronavirus pandemic, tree planting is mainly carried out by the Ministry of Forestry of the republic and its subordinate institutions. Active members of the Victory Volunteers movement and regional patriotic organizations also joined the campaign. To date, the project has reached 23 forestries, a number of cities and towns in the region.
Later on the same day, Minnikhanov was presented the concept of landscaping the territory of the Victory Park. Tatarstan President also visited a new monument to the Soviet Soldier, which will be installed in the park in the coming days. The opening of the monument will take place on the 9th of May.
