Rustam Minnikhanov meets President of the Syrian Olympic Committee Feras Mouala

On November 20, at the Government House of the republic, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov had a meeting with President of the Syrian Olympic Committee Feras Mouala. Tatarstan Minister of Sport Vladimir Leonov, people’s deputy of the State Duma of Russia, Chairman of the Olympic Council of Tatarstan Marat Bariev and other officials took part in the meeting.

On November 19-21, the Syrian delegation arrived on a working visit in Kazan. The Syrian national basketball team has a training session at the Volga youth centre under the preparation for the Asian Championship in Qatar.

Welcoming Syrian colleagues, Minnikhanov expressed confidence that their visit to the republic will be interesting and fruitful.

Tatarstan President briefed about the region's achievements in sports. He said that Tatarstan is recognized the best constituent entity of the Russian Federation in the "Region of Russia" category for its contribution to the development of sports.

According to Minnikhanov, in the coming years the capital of Tatarstan is preparing to host a number of other world competitions, namely, the World Short Course Swimming Championships in 2022, the World Winter Games of the Special Olympics in 2022, the matches of the World Volleyball Championship of the International Volleyball Federation in 2022, 2023 UEFA Super Cup and 2025 FINA World Championships.

In recent years the republic has developed a modern sports infrastructure with more than 11,000 sports facilities.

“Tatarstan is open to cooperation in sports, to the exchange of specialists in the construction of sports facilities and infrastructure. This meeting will give a good impetus to our relations. I wish the Syrian team success at the Asian Championships in Qatar,” Tatarstan President said.

Mouala thanked for the warm welcome and emphasized that Syria highly appreciates Russia's attitude to their country and its problems.
