On February 21, speaking at his meeting with Minister of Economy of the United Arab Emirates Abdulla Bin Touq Al Marri during his working visit to Abu Dhabi, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov said that the UAE is one of the most attractive partners for the development of economic contacts.

Minnikhanov noted that Tatarstan is interested in the all-round development of trade, economic and humanitarian ties with the UAE as part of Russias relations with the UAE. “We are trying to maintain a high level of interaction with our partners from the UAE,” Minnikhanov said.

He went on to say that the trade turnover between Tatarstan and the UAE exceeded 20 million US dollars in 2019, however for the nine months of 2020 it decreased to 9.3 million US dollars. The parties noted the negative impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the economy.

Minnikhanov appreciated the level of organization of the IDEX-2021 International Defence Exhibition. “Attending this major event has become a tradition for us. I must note that all conditions for the safe holding of such significant events have been created there,” he said.

Minnikhanov stressed that Tatarstan also participates in the Investment Forum in Dubai on a regular basis. “Thanks to this forum, we gain valuable experience in the field of exhibition activities, cooperate with Emirati business in attracting foreign direct investment, construction and logistics, agriculture, tourism, Islamic finance and the halal industry,” the President noted.

During their talks, the participants outlined priority areas for the further development of cooperation between Tatarstan and the United Arab Emirates, including with KAMAZ Automaker and Zelenodolsk shipyard.
