Today, trainings and qualification competitions within the framework of the First Games of the CIS countries have started in the capital of Tatarstan. International competitions among representatives of the Commonwealth of Independent States were established by the Decision of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States on October 25, 2019. In accordance with the minutes of the meeting of the Council for Physical Culture and Sports of the participants of the Agreement on Cooperation in the field of physical culture and sports of the CIS member states, it was decided to hold the first Games of the CIS countries in Kazan.
Within the framework of the First Games of the CIS countries, 182 sets of medals will be awarded in 16 sports: badminton, basketball (3 by 3), boxing, wrestling, judo, karate, koresh, table tennis, bullet shooting, sambo, wrestling, bench shooting, Thai boxing, dance sports, futsal and rhythmic gymnastics. There is an age limit for participants – they must be no older than 23 years old.
The Russian national team will feature 28 athletes from the Republic of Tatarstan. Among them are 3 badminton players Amir Hamidullin, Pavel Monich and Regina Galiakhmetova, belt wrestlers Olga Shugaeva, Alfina Fakhretdinova, Aigiza Mubarakshina, Egor Kulemin and Danila Zubrilov, koresh wrestlers Rabbani Nurgaliyev, Ruzal Timergaliyev, Rasim Shiriyev, Ilsaf Fakhrutdinov, Bulat Yunusov, Albert Sahabiev and Ainur Ganiev, table tennis Damir Akhmetsafin, karateka Zarina Mukhametzyanova and Ilyas Fatykhov, bullet shooting Evgeny Potapov and Aigul Khabibullina, stand-up artists Anna Kolesnikova, Anna Belyaeva, Dmitry Vavilov, Iulitta Egorova,
Milena Vigmanova, Diana Valiullova and Salavat Sadykov.
Athletes from Azerbaijan, Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan will gather in Kazan. In total, about 1,500 athletes and 600 officials are expected to participate in the teams. In addition, 1,074 volunteers, 450 national judges and team judges, as well as 16 technical delegates and more than 100 media representatives will be involved in the competition.
The Gymnastics Center, the KAI Olymp Cultural and sports complex, the URAM Extreme Park, the Badminton Center, the AK Bars Martial Arts Palace, the MIRAS sports and training complex, the Boxing and Table Tennis Center, the Tulpar universal sports complex, the Bullet Shooting Center, the sViyaga bench shooting complex, as well as the sports hall of the Volga State University of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism will be used for the First CIS Games in Kazan. The main object of the delegations' accommodation will be the Universiade Village, and the participants and judges of the bench shooting competitions will live on the campus of Innopolis University.
The logo of the Games, chosen as a result of an open competition, depicts a Firebird. The wide-open wings of the bird symbolize the hospitality and diversity of cultures of the peoples living on the territory of the CIS. The colors of the flags of the CIS member countries are inscribed in the plumage of the Firebird. The mascot was the snow leopard, the national symbol of the Republic of Tatarstan.
The decision to hold the CIS Games in Kazan was made on October 25, 2019, and they were scheduled for August 2020, but the dates of the competition were later adjusted due to the spread of coronavirus infection.
