In his congratulatory address to Tatarstan residents on the occasion of the Sabantuy Holiday, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov has said:
“Dear Tatarstan residents! From the bottom of my heart I congratulate you with the most beloved and long-awaited holiday of Tatars – the bright and cheery Sabantuy!
The wonderful celebration of peasant’s labour, boldness and talent given to us by our remote ancestors symbolizes awakening of the land and peaceful work, generous hospitality and kindliness of the Tatars.
For us Sabantuy is a live binding thread with a native home, thankful thoughts and warm recollections about which go to the heart of our soul.
Nowadays it its especially important to preserve and multiply the values we inherited from our fathers and grandfathers such as love to the native language and family hearth, traditional way of life and principles of peaceful coexistence of representatives of various ethnicities and religions.
It is symbolic that the current year Sabantuy is held after ceremonial celebrations of the 1100th anniversary of adopting Islam by the Volga Bulgaria. This milestone event substantially influenced the development of Tatar culture and traditions and everyday life of people. Reverent ancestors left us a huge heritage of selfless love to the native land, eternal religious and moral values and high examples of spiritual and material culture.
I am sure that celebrations of Sabantuy will give everyone a possibility to touch rich historical and cultural heritage of our people and get positive emotions from communication with your friends and associates!
Happy holiday, dear friends!”
