From April 16 to 21, Kazan will host the Russian Swimming Championship 2023, which will bring together more than 1,000 of the country's strongest athletes, among whom there will be prize-winners and winners of the Olympic Games, World and European championships.
Spectators will be able to enjoy swimming at various distances in butterfly, breaststroke, freestyle, complex and backstroke, and men's, women's and mixed relay races will also be held.
The national team of the Republic of Tatarstan is represented by about 30 athletes, including Alexander Obsharov, Nikolai Zuev, Eduard Valiakhmetov, Valeria Salamatina, Daria Ustinova, Olesya Korchagina and others. The most stellar of them is Andrey Minakov, Honored Master of Sports, Russian record holder and world and European champion, multiple medalist of the World and European Championships, who previously played for St. Petersburg, has now joined the Tatarstan team.
The opening ceremony of the tournament will take place on April 16 at 17:00 in the Palace of Water Sports. As part of the championship, swimmers will compete for more than 30 sets of awards. Vladimir Salnikov, President of the All-Russian Swimming Federation, and Vladimir Leonov, Minister of Sports of the Republic of Tatarstan, will attend the launch press conference an hour before the opening ceremony. The venue of the press conference will be the press center of the Palace of Water Sports.
