On 14 June the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov together with the Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Andrey Belousov, the Minister of Transport of the country Vitaliy Savelyev and the Director General of the KAMAZ Automaker Sergey Kogogin took part in a ceremony launching the unmanned KAMAZ trucks traffic on the M-11 highway within the testing legal framework.
The initiative of the Unmanned Logistics Corridors was proposed by the Russian Ministry of Transport and business in spring 2021 and included into the List of initiatives of social and economic development of the country till 2030 and the Strategic Track in the digital transport industry sphere till 2030. It is expected that the solutions of M-11 will be scaled up to other highways starting from 2024.
The knowhow of the project is in the fact that it is for the first time that technologies of the unmanned vehicles and the smart road services (wireless communication, digital map, navigations and road services) are being tested together.
Speaking at the ceremony, Andrey Belousov said that today is the important and remarkable day we have been approaching for two years. He emphasized that it is hard work to develop an unmanned vehicle under sanctions.
Today three unmanned KAMAZ trucks on the basis of the semi-hauler truck of the KAMAZ 54901 fifth generation, which are equipped with the automated driving system, started their trip from the launch point and in July three more will do the same.
