On June 17, during his working visit to Uzbekistan, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov had a meeting with the members of Tatar public organizations of Uzbekistan.
There are 32 million people living in Uzbekistan, including about 1 per cent of the Tatar nationality - over 300,000. The largest number of Tatars is in Tashkent and Tashkent region, namely 150,000. As many as 7,500 of our compatriots live in Bukhara and Bukhara region.
One of the largest Tatar diasporas abroad is in Uzbekistan. At the turn of the 1990s of the last century, the Tatar Public Cultural and Educational Centre was established in the capital city Tashkent.
During his working visits to Uzbekistan, Tatarstan President regularly holds meetings with his compatriots.
