Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov meets Head of the Chuvash Republic Oleg Nikolaev in the Kazan Kremlin

On May 11, in the Kazan Kremlin, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov had s meeting with Head of the Chuvash Republic Oleg Nikolaev, who arrived in Kazan to participate in the solemn event dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the completion of the construction of the Kazan Defensive Perimeter and Sur Defensive Line.

During the meeting, the parties discussed issues of cooperation between the regions in the sphere of economy, culture and education and the implementation of some joint projects. Minnikhanov handed in the state award of Tatarstan - the medal of “100 years of the Establishment of TASSR” to Nikolaev.

In his turn, the Head of the Chuvash republic handed over a commemorative medal dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the construction of the Sura and Kazan defensive lines to Tatarstan President. Minnikhanov thanked him for attention to strengthening cooperation with Tatarstan. He emphasized that the neighbouring republics have strong business and cultural ties.

The trade turnover between Tatarstan and Chuvashia is about 8 billion roubles, Minnikhanov reminded. Thus, Tatarstan supplies trucks, diesel fuel and gasoline, nitrogen fertilizers, glass, a wide range of food products, detergents and light industry products. Food, shoes and knitwear, caustic soda, plumbing, paint and construction materials are imported from the Chuvash Republic to the region. “We are interested in developing cooperation. Interaction in education and science, health, youth policy and the development of tourism are among the important directions,” Minnikhanov said.

Tatarstan President expressed his gratitude for supporting the activities of Tatar public organizations in Chuvashia. For his part, he said that Tatarstan is facilitating the activity of the Chuvash national and cultural autonomy.

Minnikhanov invited the Head of the Chuvash Republic to attend the events on the celebration of the Chuvash culture "Uyav" in Tatarstan in July, and events dedicated the 1100th anniversary of the adoption of Islam by the Volga Bulgaria and a meeting of the Russia-Islamic World Strategic Vision Group, as well as to take part in the Russia-Islamic World: KazanSummit International Economic Summit.

At the end of the meeting, Minnikhanov and Nikolaev went to a festive concert dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the completion of the construction of the Kazan Defensive Perimeter and Sur Defensive Line. The best creative groups and artists of Tatarstan and Chuvashia took part in the concert.
