Rustam Minnikhanov meets the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation Janitha Abeywickrema Liyanage

On May 12, speaking at a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation Janitha Abeywickrema Liyanage in the Kazan Kremlin, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov said that Tatarstan is interested in developing cooperation with Sri Lanka.

Welcoming the Ambassador in Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov thanked for the interest in interaction with the republic. “Russia's relations with the countries of South Asia have always remained warm and developed in a constructive way. Sri Lanka is one of the favorite places of Tatarstan tourists for holidays. We highly appreciate the opportunity to establish cooperation between Tatarstan and Sri Lanka under the friendly relations between our countries,” the Rais of the republic said.

Minnikhanov emphasized that until recently the level of trade and economic cooperation between Tatarstan and Sri Lanka remained low. Last year there was a leap, the trade turnover increased and reached 36 million US dollars. In the markets of Asian countries, helicopters of the MI series and KAMAZ trucks produced in the republic are well known.

“Tatarstan is one of the most economically developed regions of Russia. We have significant industrial potential and developed human resources. Among the competitive advantages of our republic are favorable geographical position, rich natural and highly skilled labor resources, powerful industrial and scientific complex and developed transport infrastructure. The basis of our economy is oil, oil refining and petrochemistry,” Minnikhanov said.

Tatarstan is one of the leaders in the rating of the investment climate in Russia, Minnikhanov went on speking. Much attention is paid to the development of innovative infrastructure. Thus, today there are 5 territories of priority social and economic development area (PSEDA), two special economic zones, industrial and techno parks, technology parks and business incubators in Tatarstan.

Thus, the Ambassador Janitha Abeywickrema Liyanage visited the Innopolis special economic zone and the city of Innopolis, and also got acquainted with the economic and investment potential of the region.
