Rustam Minnikhanov: We will join all our efforts to hold BRICS games at the high organizational level
On 19 January the Russian Minister of Sports Oleg Matytsin, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, Deputy prime Minister of Tatarstan Shamil Gafarov and representatives of a number of federal and regional Ministries and departments took part in a meeting of the organizational committee held by Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Dmitriy Chernyshenko and the Aid to Russian President Igor Levitin on preparation to Sports Games of BRICS countries in Kazan in 2024.
Speaking at the meeting Dmitriy Chernyshenko emphasized the strategic importance of the forthcoming tournament. “In 2024 Russia holds the presidency of BRICS and the inter-state format of the BRICS Sports Games will make it possible to organize them at a high level and ensure equal participation opportunities for all participants. Russia brings the BRICS Games format to an absolutely new level with planned competitions in 29 kinds of sports, which are popular in the alliance countries. We can see positive attitude of participating countries which do not do as they are told by Western functionaries. The innovative Games of the Future begin in Kazan in a month and their preparations go as planned. I am sure that this tradition will continue in preparations for the BRICS Games. It is important to ensure readiness of all facilities and their compliance with all requirements,” – he said.
In his turn Rustam Minnikhanov thanked the administration of the country for the opportunity of hosting such a large international event in the republic. ”Not once has Tatarstan hosted the largest international events. Our rich experience permits us to undertake a responsibility for holding event of any level and format. The republic has all resources necessary for implementation of this project. I can assure you that we will join all our efforts to hold BRICS games at the high organizational level and fulfill all undertaken responsibilities,” the Rais of the republic emphasized.
Oleg Matytsin reminded that according to the initiative of Russia which was approved by colleagues from BRICS countries the BRICS Games-2024 will be held in an open format. “All alliance members keep the equal non-discriminatory access principle and we provide equal opportunities when representatives from all countries can freely participate in the tournament without any limitations or sanctions under the flag of their country and playing the hymn of a winning state,” he said.
The Russian Minister of Sports also informed that about 5 000 participants from more than 60 countries are expected to come to the Games and concluded: “We will be happy to see all participant and guests of competitions at BRICS Sports Games -2024 in Kazan.”
After Shamil Gafarov reported about preparations made in Tatarstan for BRICS Games, the participants of the meeting approved the list of sports disciplines and venues of competitions to be held from 11 to 23 June 2024 and the official logo of the tournament.
